10 Natural Home Remedies for the Treatment of Burns

Our outer layer of skin becomes red when it comes in contact with a hot object or fire. If you have only minor burns on an outer layer, then these can be cured using home remedies. It is also called a superficial burn. If these are not treated on time, then these can take a form of blisters. Many natural home remedies can be used for curing inflammation caused by burning.

Cold Water

If you ever come in contact with fire, then put cold water immediately on affected areas. It will prevent inflammation and cure the lesions. You can also put some cold water in any polythene and keep it on the burnt area or dip some fresh cloth in cold water and use this. Do this continuously for immediate relief.

Make sure, do not use ice as it can slow down the blood circulation and can damage the burnt area, which can make the situation worse.

Raw Potato

Raw potato has anti-irritating and soothing properties that cure minor burns. It also relieves pain and reduces the risk of blisters forming. Chop the raw potato into slices and rub these on the burnt area. Make sure that the juice of potato is adequately applied to the affected area.  

The other remedy is to make a paste of mashed potatoes and apply this to the burnt area for 15-20 minutes. For better results, use this paste immediately after burning.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera has astringent and tissue healing properties that cure burnt areas. Apply fresh aloe Vera gel directly on affected areas slowly. For better results, you can add one spoon of turmeric in it. If aloe Vera is not available near you, then you can use aloe Vera cream, which is present in the market.

Coconut Oil and Lemon Juice

When a burnt area is dried and cooled, then use coconut oil and lemon juice on it. Coconut oil has vitamin E and fatty acids l, which prevent infections due to its anti-fungal, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties.

Lemon juice has acidic properties that reduce scars naturally. Mix an equal amount of coconut oil and lemon juice and use it daily on injuries in the morning and in the evening.

Honey

Honey has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that protect scars from infection and heels it immediately. It also reduces the risk of injuries. Apply honey on scars and cover it with a bandage. Change this bandage 3-4 times a day.

Black Tea Bags

Black tea bags reduce inflammation and protect the area from infection by expelling out heat from a burnt area. Soak three tea bags in one bowl of warm water for some time. When the water cools down, then dip a cloth in this water and keep this on burnt skin. Repeat the process 3-4 times daily.

Vinegar

It also has astringent and antiseptic properties that are used for treating minor burns and prevent infection. Mix dilute white vinegar or apple cider vinegar in water in an equal amount. Now apply this solution to the burnt area. After some time, cover the injured part with a cloth dipped in diluted vinegar.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender oil has antiseptic and painkilling properties. It reduces the risk of scars which are developed after burnt skin. Mix 5 drops of lavender oil in 2 cup of water. Now dip a cloth in this solution and cover the affected areas with that cloth. You can also apply lavender oil directly on the injured part, but make sure it is only diluted oil. Or, you can also mix some drops of honey in lavender oil and apply this on burnt skin.

Plantain Leaves

Plantain leaves are beneficial for treating burns. These have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. Mash banana leaves and makes a paste of it. Apply this paste on the affected area and cover this with a fresh cloth. When it dries up, then apply another paste.

Onion Juice

Onion juice has sulfur, which reduces inflammation, heals the injury, and also reduces the risk of blister formation. Extract juice from a fresh onion. Rub this juice in an affected area. Make sure the liquid is only of the sweet onion because old onion loses its medicinal properties. Do this 3-4 times a day for a few days. Onion juice is one of the best Treatments of Burns.

Additional Tips

You can also use white toothpaste or regular non-mentholated, showing cream on the burnt area. Do not apply oil, butter, petroleum gel, egg white part on the affected area because it can increase the heat. Peel of egg may have bacteria in it. Avoid the usage of ice cubes. Do not break the blisters if they have formed on burnt skin because this can cause infection. Don’t use sticky cloth in injured areas. Protect burns from any friction, re-injuring, and tanning.

These natural home remedies are useful for the Treatment of Burns, but the minor and first degree burns. But if your skin is burnt vigorously, then consult a doctor. Burns, due to electricity and infection caused by burns, should be checked up by doctors.
