A stuffy or blocked nose is a common problem with every person. This happens when there is swelling in the nasal cavity or mucus build up.  The result is difficulty in breathing and in some cases headache. Other causes for stuffy nose are cold and allergies. The problem of blocked nose is it can be uncomfortable. Treatment for stuffy nose is necessary because it can lead to other problems like ear infections or restless sleep.  There are many ingredients in your kitchen that can be the cure for stuffy blocked nose.

Today I am going to share 10 natural home remedies to get long term relief from stuffy blocked nose.

  1. Garlic for Stuffy Blocked Nose:-

Garlic is an effective remedy for blocked nose. Its antiviral and anti-fungal properties help fight respiratory infections and therefore clears up the pathway to your lungs.

Boil 3 garlic cloves in a cup of water. You can also add one-half spoon of turmeric powder in it. Drink the mixture 2-3 times a day, add honey for taste and flavor. You may also eat raw garlic cloves to have an even stronger effect.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar for Stuffy Blocked Nose:-

Apple cider vinegar clears up a stuffy nose quickly because it helps to break the mucus. Also, being rich in nutrients, it is good for overall health and immunity.

Mix two spoons of apple cider vinegar with one spoon of honey and one cup of warm water. Repeat this 2-3 times daily for a few days until you totally feel well.

  1. Steam Inhalation for Stuffy Blocked Nose:-

Steam inhalation is also a popular home remedy for relief from the blocked nose. It works as a natural way to clear the congestion. You can do this 2-4 times a day.

Add 2-3 drops of peppermint into a bowl of boiling water. Make sure to put the bowl on a stable surface where you can lean over it and put a towel over your head and inhale the steam.

Note:- Steam inhalation is generally not recommended for younger children because of a risk of scalding. Moreover, it is not suitable for pregnant women and for those who suffer from high blood pressure, heart condition and central nervous system disorders.

  1. Nasal Irrigation for Stuffy Blocked Nose:-

Putting the saline solution in the nose can also treat nasal congestion. It clears the mucus. Add one spoon of salt in 2 cups of distilled water. Use a neti pot and nasal irrigation kit and squirt this nasal solution in and through your nose. Do this 1-2 times a day for a few days.

Note:- Use only distilled or boiled water and clean the irrigation device after every wash.

  1. Eucalyptus Oil for Stuffy Blocked Nose:-

Eucalyptus oil has decongestant and anti-inflammatory properties which help treating nasal congestion. Add 2-3 drops of Eucalyptus oil on a fresh towel and inhale its fragrance 3-4 times a day. You can put a few drops of this oil on your pillow so you can inhale its aroma while sleeping.

  1. Warm Water for Stuffy Blocked Nose:-

Warm water is very important to clean the mucus in the nose for curing blocked nose.  Warm  keeps the nasal passage moisturized.  Clear the mucus 4-5 times a day and then clean your nose with warm water and a fresh cotton towel.

Warm shower can also help. An alternative for a shower is to dip a cloth in warm water and keep it on the face for 10-15 minutes. Repeat this process 3-4 times a day.

  1. Herbal Tea for Stuffy Blocked Nose:-

Hot herbal tea breaks the mucus that is clogged in the nasal passage. The herbal property present in tea helps expel the toxic substances from our body. Drink your favorite herbal tea twice a day. Peppermint tea is one of the most effective teas for blocked nose.

  1. Black Pepper for Stuffy Blocked Nose:-

Black pepper is very useful for blocked sinus and nasal congestion. Black pepper causes sneezing that clears the mucus. Take some black pepper on your palm and put some sesame oil drops in it. Apply this mixture into your nose using a finger. Inhale it with a deep breath.

This will cause sneezing but it is a good to clear out the nose if you are up for it!

  1. Spicy Tomato Tea for Stuffy Blocked Nose:-

Spicy tomato tea speeds up the flow of mucus through the nasal passage and therefore is a good remedy for nasal congestion.

Boil 1 cup of tomato juice along with one spoon of garlic, one spoon of lemon juice and one pinch of salt. Drink this warm spicy tomato tea slowly. Also, you can add some spice like ginger, garlic, onion, and red chili to make it extra spicy!

  1. Fenugreek Seeds for Stuffy Blocked Nose:-

Fenugreek seeds have anti-inflammatory properties that help to cure nasal congestion. It also cleans mucus membranes. Moreover, fenugreek seed tea provides heat and moisture to our body which breaks the mucus.

Mix 2 spoons of crushed fenugreek seeds in a cup of water. Boil it and then strain the mixture. Drink it when it is still warm. Do this 3 times a day until your recover.

Note:- Pregnant women should not eat fenugreek seeds because it stimulates uterine contractions.
