10 Causes and Home Remedies for Insomnia | Sleeping Disorder

 Insomnia is getting a very common disease in everyone these days in which a suffering person trying a lot to sleep, one is not able to sleep. This causes depression, stress, anxiety, tension, irritation, laziness, and fatigue. It also makes a bad mood for the next day and person do not want to do work on the next day because of insomnia. It can create a problem in his/her personal life, business life and in social life too.

Insomnia is of two types – acute and chronic. Most often people suffer from acute insomnia which remains for some days or weeks. On the other hand, chronic insomnia stays for months or even years. And I am saying it seriously, it affects the whole person physically, mentally and socially a lot.

Causes of Insomnia

Stress, depression, tension, anxiety, mental illness, less sleep, consumption of caffeine, improper lifestyle and bad eating habit are all the reasons behind insomnia. Moreover, some medical conditions like arthritis, heart disease, acid reflux etc .can cause this problem. Many medicines also lead to insomnia.

Today I am going to share 10 home remedies which helps a lot to get rid of the problem of insomnia or say sleeping disorder.

Cumin Seeds

Cumin seeds are culinary spice which improves digestion of stomach and helps us in getting proper sleep. It is very effective in increasing sleep according to earlier ayurvedic treatment. You can also use oil of cumin seeds.

Mash one banana and mix cumin seeds powder in it. Take this before sleeping every night. For making cumin powder, cook some cumin seeds after drying these and cumin seeds, grind this to make its powder.

You can consume tea of cumin seeds for overcoming laziness, fatigue and anxiety problem. It gives immediate relief. Prepare a tea after cooking one spoon of cumin seeds on low flame. Put this in one cup of water and boil it till cumin seeds color changes. Let it cool down and then filter out. Now your tea is ready. Drink this regularly before sleeping for a few days to overcome from this problem.

Nutmeg

Nutmeg has sedative properties which help in taking normal sleep.

Mix one-fourth spoon of nutmeg in one cup of hot milk. Consume this before sleep. Instead, you can also use a 1/4th spoon of nutmeg in one cup of hot water.

Moreover, prepare a mixture of one pinch of nutmeg powder and one spoon of amla and take this 3 times a day. This will cure insomnia as well as helps in improving the digestion system and depression.

Saffron

Saffron has mild sedative properties which are very effective for curing insomnia. Mix saffron in one cup of hot milk. Have it before sleep and get rid of the problem of sleeping disorder.

Chamomile Tea

This is used as medicine for insomnia from earlier times. Although, its main reason is not found yet some surveys have shown that apigenin present in chamomile is responsible for this behavior.

Consume one cup of chamomile tea for relaxation and getting a good night’s sleep. You can add cinnamon and honey in it for better taste.

Banana

Banana is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to get rid of the problem of sleeping disorder because it contains niacin amino acid. This increases the level of serotonin and improves the sleeping pattern. Banana helps in recovering the mood swings and makes our digestive system healthy.

Banana is the cheapest Home Remedies for Insomnia.

Hot Milk

Hot milk is helpful for relaxing our mind as well as body. Just like banana, it has niacin amino acid too. This increases the normal sleep. Mix one spoon of cinnamon in one cup of hot milk. Drink one cup before sleep; it will surely help in sleeping easily.

Fenugreek Juice

This juice helps to overcome from anxiety, insomnia, nausea etc. prepare juice by grinding fresh fenugreek leaves. Consume this juice regularly by adding one spoon of honey in 2 spoons of this juice. Avoid milk or milk products after having it.

Valerian

It is a medicinal herb which gives relief to our muscles. It produces relaxation and increases deep sleep.

Mix ½ spoon valerian and nutmeg together in 2 cups of water. Leave this for 15 minutes and then consume this after filtering out. Don’t use this remedy for more than 2 weeks because this can cause heart-related problems if taken more.

Valerian tea is also useful. You can also take one cup of water containing ½ spoon of Valerian juice. Use this method 2-3 times a day.

Hot Bath

Take a hot bath in the night two hours before going to sleep/bed. This relaxes our body and calms down our nervous system. Add soothing essentials oil like a balm, chamomile oil, lavender oil etc. in your bath tun for making it more effective.

 Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey

Apple cider vinegar contains amino acid which helps in to overcome from laziness and fatigue. Moreover, it breaks down fatty acids in the body and converts these into tryptophan which gives relief from insomnia/ sleeping disorder. Honey increases the level of insulin and serotonin and helps in fighting with sleeplessness. Serotonin is a brain chemical which keeps sleep cycle in control. A decrease in the level of serotonin causes sleeping disorders. On the other hands, increased level of serotonin increases sleep. Therefore, maintain a level of serotonin by using these remedies.

Mix 2 spoons of organic apple cider vinegar and honey each in a cup of warm water. Drink this before your bedtime. You can also make tonic by mixing 2 spoons of apple cider vinegar in one cup honey. Take one spoon of this tonic regularly.

Along with these remedies mentioned above, you should also change your lifestyle like proper time of sleeping, awakening, sleep early in the night and wake up early in the morning, eat dinner 2-3 hours before sleeping, don’t consume too much food in nights.

Do regular yoga or another workout/fitness activities in the morning or in the evening. Avoid caffeine products after 5-6 in the evening as it affects the sleeping pattern in the night.
