10 Natural Home Remedies for a Stuffy Blocked Nose

Garlic

Garlic is an effective remedy for a blocked nose. Its antiviral and anti-fungal properties help fight respiratory infections and clear nasal pathways. 

Boil 3 garlic cloves in a cup of water, and add one-half spoon of turmeric powder in the mixture. Drink the mixture 2-3 times a day, add honey for taste and flavor. Eat raw garlic cloves too for a stronger effect.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar clears up a stuffy nose quickly because it helps break up mucus. Rich in nutrients, apple cider vinegar is good for overall health and immunity.

Mix two spoons of apple cider vinegar with one spoon of honey and one cup of warm water.  Drink and repeat this 2-3 times daily for a few days until you feel well.

Steam Inhalation

Steam inhalation is a popular natural home remedy to relieve a blocked nose. 

Add 2-3 drops of peppermint into a bowl of boiling water. Make sure to put the bowl on a stable surface where you can lean over it. Put a towel over your head and inhale the steam.

Note: Steam inhalation is generally not recommended for younger children because of a risk of scalding. It is not suitable for pregnant women and for those who suffer from high blood pressure, heart condition and central nervous system disorders.

Eucalyptus oil has decongestant and anti-inflammatory properties that help ease nasal congestion. Add 2-3 drops of Eucalyptus oil on a fresh towel and inhale the fragrance 3-4 times a day. Put a few drops of this oil on your pillow and inhale the aroma while sleeping.

Boil 1 cup of tomato juice along with one spoon of garlic, one spoon of lemon juice and one pinch of salt. Drink this warm spicy tomato tea slowly. Add some spices like ginger, garlic, onion, and red chili to make the drink extra spicy!

Fenugreek Seeds
