Following are some causes of psoriasis:-

  • Emotional stress.
  • Dry skin
  • Sunburn

Oatmeal bath can hydrate the skin layer and reduce itching and inflammation. It softens the skin and calms the nerves. Oatmeal is also effective for other skin problems like eczema and dry skin.

Mix open spoon of oatmeal powder in warm bath tub. Sock in it for 15-20 minutes. After coming out of the water, pat dry your skin and apply good moisturizer over your skin. Do this once a day or 4-5 times a week; till you not get relief or feeling that you are going to be victim of this problem.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar:-

Apple cider vinegar balances the PH level of skin and prevents infections. Moreover, it reduces itching and inflammation on skin.

Mix one spoon of organic apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it twice a day. This remedy is also good for health as it expels out toxic substances from our body. Or, mix two spoons of apple cider vinegar in one cup of warm water. Dip a cotton ball in it and apply it on psoriasis. Repeat this 2-3 times a day.

  1. Ice-pack:-

Ice pack is also reduces the itching and inflammation caused by psoriasis. Moreover, it numbs the nerves and prevents pain related signals send to the brain which eases the pain. Wrap few ice cubes in a fresh cotton cloth. Place this in psoriasis affected area for 10 minutes. Do this every 3 hours throughout the day.

  1. Epson Salt:-

Epson salt bath is also very effective for irritation and psoriasis. This reduces inflammation of skin and softens the scaling that is caused by psoriasis. Also, it is good for detoxification. Mix two cups of Epsom salt in a bath tub of warm water. Soak in it for 15-20 minutes. After coming out of the water, pat dry your skin and apply good moisturizer. Do this two-three times in a week.

  1. Garlic:-

Garlic contains anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which reduces symptoms of psoriasis. It inhibits the enzyme called lipoxygenase which causes inflammation. Moreover, being an antimicrobial agent, it prevents skin infection. Garlic also prevent its outbreak because it has active compounds and blood purifying property. Mix equal amounts of garlic oil and aloevera gel. Apply it on affected area and then leave it as such for 15 minutes and then wash it off with fresh water. You can do this daily until you totally recover from it.

You can also eat (if you want to) two three times crushed garlic cloves daily. Leave crushed garlic cloves for 10 minutes and then eat these for better results for your health. If you do not like the taste or smell of garlic, you can add slight amount of lemon and salt in it or honey too. Also you can take garlic supplements from medicine shop too. Consult the doctor for proper dosage of supplement.

  1. Olive Oil:-

Olive oil is also good for psoriasis because it softens the skin and reduces flaking and scaling. Apply lukewarm olive oil on affected area. Do this 2-3 times a day to treat psoriasis. Just like olive oil, coconut oil is also very useful for psoriasis.

  1. Turmeric:-

Turmeric has anti inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Moreover, it contains active compound curcumin which fights with inflammation and inhibits enzyme called phosphorylase kinase that is responsible for skin cell growth.

Mix one spoon of turmeric powder in a glass of hot milk and add honey according to your taste and drink it daily. You can also use this in cooking too.

Note:-

Do not use turmeric if you have gallbladder problems because it can make the situation worse. Also, if you have blood clotting issues or take diabetes medicines then consult your doctor.

You can apply turmeric directly on psoriasis; prepare a paste of one spoon of turmeric mixed with sufficient amount of water. Apply this paste on affected areas and cover with a piece of cloth. Leave it as such for whole night. Remove the cloth in the morning and wash it off with water. You can do this remedy on regular basis.

  1. Licorice:-

According to studies, licorice contains an active compound called glycrrhizin that cures redness and irritation of skin and is also good for eczema, rosacea and psoriasis. Moreover, its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties reduce inflammation and help keep you healthy.

Apply 2 percent of licorice gel or cream on affected area twice a day. Or, boil two spoons of dry licorice root in 3 glasses of water for 40 minutes at low flame. Now let it cool down and then filter the mixture. Dip a cloth in it and keep that on affected area for 10 minutes. Use this regularly to get rid of this problem.

  1. Glycerin:-

Glycerin is considered as very good remedy for skin problems because it provides moisture and maintains the beauty of skin. According to researches, glycerin contains glycerol which is very helpful in skin maturation.

Apply glycerine properly on affected areas when it dries up then reapply glycerine. You can also use glycerine after its recovery because it is effective for overall health.

  1. Aloevera:-

Aloevera is also helps reduce symptoms of psoriasis like skin irritation. It forms a protective layer on skin which promotes healing process. Moreover, it has anti-inflammatory compounds which fight with inflammation and boost the immunity of body.

Extract gel from aloevera areas. Leave it as such until it is absorbed by skin. Do this 2-3 times a day till you not recover.

Additional Tips:-

Take a bath daily but do not rub the skin harshly as it can cause more irritation and inflammation. Use good quality soap which provides moisture to skin. Do not use perfumes because it increases the inflammation in psoriasis. Sun exposure can also help treating psoriasis. According to national psoriasis Foundation, sun exposure help slow down helps slow down the rate of growth and shedding of skin cells.

Therefore, take a sunbath daily for atleast 20-30 minutes. About 10-30 percent of patients suffering from psoriasis are more likely to develop psoriatic arthritis. Therefore consult your doctor if you have symptoms of arthritis.
